Scienta Scientific traces its heritage to 1983, when Scienta was co-founded in Uppsala by Kai Siegbahn, who received the 1981 Nobel Prize in Physics for developing electron spectroscopy.

The Group is backed by private investors with a long-term ownership perspective.

Key milestones

• 1981

  Kai Siegbahn is awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for developing electron spectroscopy.

• 1983

  Scienta AB established in Uppsala, co-founded by Kai Siegbahn.

• 1984

  Omicron Vacuumphysik founded in Germany.

• 2004

  First SAUNA xenon detection system developed in collaboration with FOI.

• 2007

  VG Scienta formed through the merger of Vacuum Generators and Scienta AB.

• 2010

  Scienta Scientific Group formed by merging VG Scienta and Scienta Sensor Systems.

• 2011

  Joint venture formed between Oxford Instruments’ Omicron Nanotechnology and Scienta Scientific Group.

• 2020

  Scienta Scientific Holding acquires full ownership of Scienta Omicron.

• 2021

  Envinet GmbH acquired; Scienta Envinet created by combining Scienta Sensor Systems and Envinet.

• 2025

  Scienta Scientific fully acquired by a spin-off team from Eterna Invest AB, positioning the group for future growth.
